O365 BaaS Restore Server Setup

Before restoring a file from your Green Cloud backups for the first time, you will need to download and install Veeam Backup & Replication and the Veeam Explorers for both Exchange and SharePoint. Once these utilities are installed, you can use them to access and restore from your O365 backups.

Note that the Veeam B&R Server must be running the same OS as Green Cloud’s server (Windows Server 2016) due to Veeam’s software requirements.

Install Veeam Backup & Replication

Check the Veeam Downloads page (https://www.veeam.com/virtual-machine-backup-solution-free-download.html) for the latest version of “Veeam Backup Free Edition”. Download the latest version, unzip the package, and install it on a local workstation with WAN access.

Install Veeam Explorers for Exchange and SharePoint

Go to the Veeam Backup for Office365 page (https://www.veeam.com/backup-microsoft-office-365-download.html).  Download the latest version and unzip the package, then locate and install the Exchange and SharePoint Explorers (two separate programs) on the same machine on which Veeam Backup & Replication is installed.

Activate Advanced View

After installing Veeam Backup & Replication, verify that the “Advanced” view is enabled. Open Veeam B&R, click the menu button in the upper left-hand corner, and select “Full functionality” under “View”. This will enable the “Backup Infrastructure” section, which will allow Green Cloud to be added as a Service Provider.

Add Green Cloud as a Service Provider

In Veeam Backup & Replication, select “Backup Infrastructure” in the lower left-hand corner. Click the “Add Service Provider” button in the upper left-hand corner. In the dialog box that appears, enter the DNS name and Port provided in your Green Cloud provisioning email.

At the next screen, select “Add” next to “Credentials”. Enter the username and password provided in your Green Cloud provisioning email and select “OK”, then make sure those credentials are selected in the dropdown menu.

Select “Apply”, then “Finish”. Green Cloud’s O365 backup server will now appear as a Service Provider in the Backup Infrastructure screen.

Repeat for Each O365 Tenant

A new entry for the Green Cloud O365 backup server will need to be added for each subsequent O365 tenant (each new customer account). Each O365 tenant will have their own “ownership” of the backup server. This is how the tenants are kept separate. Each new order will generate a new set of credentials which will be delivered in a provisioning email. When a new O365 backup is provisioned, you can add a new Service Provider account for that domain using the credentials that are forwarded to you. Then, when opening the Service Provider in Veeam Explorer for Exchange, you can select the relevant domain. See O365 BaaS Restore Process for more detail on this process.
